How to care for your OLYMP shirt properly

OLYMP shirts are always cause for celebration. To ensure this lasts as long as possible, we answer the most important questions about the optimal care of your new shirt: from washing and drying to keeping it crease-free on your travels.

Before washing your OLYMP shirts, be sure to separate them into white and coloured laundry to avoid discolouration on light-coloured fabrics. Then turn the shirts inside out, close the button placket and turn the collar and cuffs inside out to protect their edges during the washing process. Only use liquid detergent in the manufacturer’s recommended dosage. Powder detergent may leave white residues, particularly if the dosage is too high. To preserve the brightness of colours, we recommend the use of a detergent which is specially formulated for coloured or delicate fabrics. Do not wash more than six shirts at a time at a maximum of 600 revolutions. Please observe and follow the instructions on the care label, especially regarding the recommended temperature.
Basically, it’s important to look at the shirt’s care label before washing and checking the symbols shown on it. The washing symbol with the degree number indicates the maximum temperature at which the shirt may be washed. The lines underneath indicate whether the shirt can be spun. One line stands for the easy-care programme, two lines for the gentle wash cycle and no line for the normal wash cycle.

OLYMP shirts should ideally be spun at 400 to a maximum of 600 revolutions to keep the washing process as gentle as possible. Please don’t wash more than six shirts at a time.

There is no blanket answer to how long an OLYMP shirt can be worn before it needs to be washed. This depends very much on your personal feeling. We recommend wearing one of our OLYMP undershirts under each shirt. If there are no sweat marks on the collar or underarm area, you can consider putting the shirt on again.

For every garment item, it’s essential to follow the instructions and symbols on the care label before washing.

Knitwear:
When washing jumpers, jackets, cardigans or other knitwear, make sure to wash all the same materials and similar colours together. Turn garments inside out to protect the fibres on the outside. Use only a wool detergent for wool. After washing, garments should be shaped and pulled quickly and dried lying down. Knitwear dries best at room temperature. When ironing, make sure to iron garments inside out only, on a medium temperature setting and with plenty of steam to avoid shiny spots or felting.

Sweatwear:
To preserve the brightness of colours, we recommend using colour or mild detergent for coloureds, and only full detergent for whites. When washing, make sure to turn your garments inside out. After washing, hang the garment immediately on the clothesline to dry and pull it completely into shape. Once the garment is dry, you can iron it very easily (always inside out).

Accessories:
OLYMP accessories are finished with BIONIC-FINISH® ECO for increased protection against dirt and stains. In many cases, watery substances can simply be shaken or dabbed off the pocket square. Stubborn stains can be treated by carefully dabbing with a soft cloth soaked in spirit or cleaner’s solvent. As an absolute last resort, dry cleaning can be considered. When travelling, pocket squares can be transported in special cases/boxes, in shirt collars or shoes.

Ties:
After a tie has been worn, the tie knot should always be undone and the tie should be rolled up and stored in a wardrobe to allow recovery from creasing. If necessary, annoying creases or folds that remain even after resting can be ironed or steamed out very gently.

Stubborn stains and residue in the shirt collar or cuff area can be treated with special pre-wash pastes. The affected areas can be treated according to the manufacturer’s application instructions. If the stains are still present after the first washing attempt, the process can be repeated.

In general, the intensity of stains on the surface of textiles caused by care products such as deodorants or sunscreens depends on the composition, dosage, application time and the skin’s absorption capacity. Perspiration, the length of time the garment is worn and the frequency of contact with the textile also play a role. With light-coloured garments made of cotton, linen or viscose in particular, dirt can stubbornly adhere due to the chemical structure of the fibres – and of course this doesn’t just apply to OLYMP shirts, but to all textile products. Basically, we recommend washing the shirt regularly, wearing an undershirt and, if necessary, using higher quality care products.

After washing, shirts should be quickly removed from the washing machine, hung on a hanger and smoothed out, especially the collar, cuffs and button placket. It’s best to dry shirts outside or in an airy room.
Depending on the care symbol, some OLYMP shirts can also be dried in the dryer at a maximum of 60 degrees. Even after the drying process in the tumble dryer, the shirts must be hung on a hanger and smoothed out.
The non-iron OLYMP Luxor business shirts can be put on directly after drying. Any remaining creases disappear automatically during wear as a result of your body heat. Non-iron shirts from OLYMP can be ironed at a low temperature (maximum two points). Note that the set temperature may differ significantly from the actual ironing temperature. Collars and cuffs should only be lightly ironed and inside out.

The OLYMP Luxor modern fit and comfort fit business shirts are non-iron. All other shirt lines from OLYMP and OLYMP SIGNATURE are easy-iron.
Easy-iron means that the ironing required is largely unnecessary.

Button up your shirt, smooth it out and lay it out face down on a flat surface, with the sleeves on the outside. Now fold both sides of the shirt about one third inwards and fold the sleeves back a little. Keep smoothing it out in between. Finally, fold the bottom part of the shirt in half and fold it in towards the top.

To ensure that OLYMP shirts remain crease-free when travelling, they should be stowed at the very top of the suitcase on as smooth a surface as possible. For example, pack shoes at the bottom, then a towel as an intermediate layer and your shirt on top. In addition, you can wrap shirts in tissue paper. It is also important that shirts are not squashed together. Thus, your suitcase should not be too full.

Shirts that haven’t been worn for a long period of time and have been in the wardrobe ever since may show signs of slight discolouration. This is mainly due to stains or sweat marks that have settled in the fabric. For this reason, shirts should always be washed and hung dry in the wardrobe to avoid discolouration or yellowing. Having said that, there are plenty of reasons in life to wear your OLYMP shirt out on a regular basis, so this unsightly effect shouldn’t happen at all.
