Amsterdam

by Matthias Geerts

I’m outgoing, honest and a happy guy! Started blogging 4 years ago as an online outlet to share my passion for fashion and to show my own personal style which you can describe as casual formal. I like to dress up for certain occasion but I do like to wear a ripped jeans too! I believe the clothes you wear are a resemblance of who you are and I think people will show more attention if you’re wearing something cool or more sophisticated.

One of the things I - and probably everyone - love the most about Amsterdam are the canals! I can walk for hours in Amsterdam. I don’t mind to get lost in Amsterdam. Its views will never get old.

Why Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is just a lovely city with a fantastic vibe, the people are dressed super cool and they have cute neighbourhoods.

What’s your favorite store in Amsterdam?

When I’m in Amsterdam, a store I always visit is the ETQ store. They have super special collections of brands or limited items. They’re very trendy. If I don’t buy a new item to wear, I buy some of their gadgets or other must-have things they currently have in store.

Your Amsterdam Do’s and Don’ts?

I try to avoid mainstream and touristic things. A lovely area to do is the ‘9-straatjes’. It’s an area with less mainstream stores and you will see loads of inspiring people.
The Corner Bakery is the BEST place to have lunch in Amsterdam you can get literally everything over there. From salads to french toast and even freak shakes! Definitely a try out when you’re in the capital of The Netherlands.

When in Amsterdam I always try out new things, but of course I’m visiting my favorites too. Like this Vietnamese - (not touristic at all) restaurant called FRNZY is a good place to go when you’re staying around this neighborhood. They don’t have a big menu but everything is super fresh made.

What’s your signature style?

A shirt, definitely a shirt; People always define my style as classic, or more formal and this might be true. Nevertheless I do wear hoodies and ripped jeans, too. But yes, a shirt and some ankle dressed trousers with clean sneakers might be my signature look this summer – casual formal, like I said.

Your favourite collar? Does it depend on the occasion?

Japanese collars (note from OLYMP: stand-up collars). I think it’s a sophisticated collar and I’m really into them. They’re super smart but still casual, especially for summer.

What would you wear on a first date?

My signature look of course. Some dressed navy ankle trousers, a white shirt – you can never go wrong with that and clean white sneakers. And if you really want to add something personal go for white sneakers with patches, stitches or marks on them – that’s really trendy now.
